Covid-19 and life assurance products such as Specified Illness cover & Income Protection.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, this may cause many people to question whether they have sufficient protection in place and also how will products such as  Income Protection, Specified Illness Cover, Life cover & Mortgage Protection help you.

To date, Aviva are the only Life Insurance Company to have released a statement on the Issue but it’s our understanding that the points raised below will apply in general across all of the Life Insurance providers. However it’s still advisable to consult the terms & conditions of your specific Policy.

So, amid all of the confusion & false information out there I hope this helps:

No new COVID-19 restrictions have been applied to Aviva protection policies and currently there are no plans to amend acceptance criteria.

Will Income protection policies pay out for COVID-19?

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and meet the definition of disability after the normal deferred period yes you will be able to submit a claim.

No, COVID-19 is not a defined illness under a Specified Illness contract. However, a client may be eligible to claim for conditions arising from Covid-19 if the specified illness definition is met for example, coma.

Yes, Life policies cover you if you die from COVID-19.
